Predictions for Upcoming Apple Notebook Computera

With the upcoming Apple event it comes time again for me to speculate on upcoming Apple devices.

With the success of iOS and the iPad I predict that future apple notebooks would be a hybrid of the an iPad and the laptop computers we have come to love.

Notebooks will have an standard OS X mode and an instant on, battery saving iOS mode for when OS X is not booted. The iOS mode would be ideal for quickly checking the calendar for appointments or sending a quick email.

The hardware would be configured so you can use the physical keyboard in iOS and possibly the notebook's screen would gain touch capability. Or if there is no touch screen then touch interaction would be handled by the multi touch track pad.

I don't foresee apple just slapping the IPad OS into a notebook. Instead it will be optimized for a notebook configuration ie no auto screen rotation and such and maybe a mouse pointer for trackpad use.

Hardware wise I predict that the notebooks would gain a cellular radio and GPS similar to what is available on the iPad. User would have access to at&t's no contract data plans. The cellular data access would be available to OSX and iOS.

Location will also play a role in the upcoming OS X. There would convenient OS X features like maybe switching setting from different locations (think if I'm not at home or office then heightened network security) or recovery of a stolen notebook.
